Statement of Purpose
To provide dedicated time
and space in which artists may pursue their work
within a community whose singular purpose is to inspire, support and
honor excellence and creativity
Golden Apple Art Residency is the
collaborative vision of Greg and Shelley Stevens who first met as
children in fifth grade, and decades later found each other again.
Shelley graduated as Valedictorian from Kendall College of Art &
Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with a concentration in
painting) and received her Master of Fine Arts Degree from Kendall
in 2004. Shelley is a professor of painting and drawing at Central
Michigan University. She works out of her studio (www.goldenapplestudio.com)
in Mt. Pleasant and maintains an active exhibition schedule. Greg
graduated with a Bachelors degree in chemistry and biology from
Albion College and after working for twenty-one years at Dow
Chemical, he went on to earn an MBA in 1994 at Central Michigan
University. He then began WinOvations, Inc. successfully helping
companies around the world to identify profitable new business
opportunities.
Greg and Shelley live in Mt. Pleasant,
Michigan from September through May, and spend their summers at
Golden Apple Art Residency in Maine, where they continue to forge a
bridge connecting the worlds of art and business bonded by
creativity.
Application
Requirements
Acceptance into a two-week residency
session at Golden Apple Art Residency is determined through a jury
process and requires a written letter of intent (what work do you
propose to do while an artist-in-residence), a current
resume/curriculum vitae, a CD of recent images, and a completed
application form which can be downloaded from the website
www.goldenapplestudio.com. The deadline for submission of an
application is February 1 prior to the summer you wish to attend.
Notification of your acceptance into a residency session will be
made by March 1 prior to your scheduled residency.
Following notification of your
acceptance into a residency session, a commitment form must be
signed and returned within 30 days along with a deposit check for
$300. This amount holds your reservation as artist-in-residence, and
will be returned to you in full once you’ve completed your
residency. It does not go toward the cost of the residency, but acts
as an indication of your commitment. In the event of your
cancellation prior to your scheduled residency, the deposit will not
be refunded.
The total cost to attend a two-week
residency program (which includes all lodging, studio accommodations
and meals) is $2500. Partial scholarships may be awarded by Golden
Apple Art Residency to a limited number of qualifying artists not
eligible for other grant monies. Payment in full must be received 30
days prior to your scheduled residency. Travel costs and
arrangements and the cost of art supplies are the responsibility of
the artist. |
